Hamilton native and NHL player Zac Rinaldo is as good as they come and never forgets where he came from always doing his best to have a positive impact on others. An example of this is the event he is hosting this summer - Hockey Night in Hamilton. It's taking place on Saturday, July 14th in support of Food4Kids Hamilton to fight childhood hunger. It will feature a charity hockey game with former and current NHLers and there's a chance to get autographs following the game for VIPs. I was lucky enough to have the chance to chat with Zac ahead of this event. Check out our Q&A below: What inspired you to host this event? To simply do something for my city that no one did when I was growing up. A night to meet your favorite hockey players and raise money for kids in our city that have no food. I want kids to have every opportunity to be the best they can be. . I always give back to my Community How has Hamilton influenced you on and off the ice? Hamilton is home. My life is here. My family is here. My friends are here. It’s made me one of the hardest working players in the league. Seeing how down to earth people are in my city and how hard people work in my city makes me want to do the same thing. Why should people come out to Hockey Night in Hamilton? To come support kids that have no food for their family and that are starving in our city. They need the most and I’m hosting this event to put food in kids hands so they can be given a chance to do and be what they want in life. If you have yet watch BET's new series, "In Contempt", I suggest you do it ASAP!
Megan Hutchings kills it as Tracy Campbell, the lead character Gwen's best friend and roommate. She is a sassy lawyer from the South who isn't afraid to bend or break the rules to get what she wants. Megan is also in CBC's Crawford, making its broadcast debut this summer. Check out our Q&A below: How do feel about the response to “In Contempt” so far? I've honestly tried to stay a little naive to the response! I try my best to not to google reviews or ratings just yet. I don't want to get my hopes up for a second season and I also don't want to be super let down. Isn't that terrible? So as of right now I just ask friends and family what they think - and they love it (or so they say) so I'm happy with that! What have you learned about yourself during your time as “Tracy”? That I can do a southern accent! That I'm capable of the time, discipline and work it takes to be a lead and that a good pencil skirt can do wonders for your ass. What are your hopes for the broadcast premiere of “Crawford”? I hope that people watch and love it! The show is really unique and special and so I hope it gets the viewership and and attention it deserves. Mike Clattenburg is such a creative genius and this show is a testimony to that - so I hope people see that! This post was submitted by contributor Melissa Vandermeer. Any good stylist knows that nothing initiates a landslide of trends than a royal marriage. I’m so in love with the mix of modern and traditional style from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal wedding, and pre-wedding celebrations. Want to know more? Let’s start off with some examples from the bridal shower. The then, bride to be, had her bridal shower at the gorgeously rustic Soho Farmhousewith close (mostly British) friends (source: E! News). Soho Farmhouse is known for luxurious relaxation, gourmet food and equally delicious views. There’s over 100 acres of countryside at Soho; along with a movie theatre, horse stable, tennis courts and spa. Meghan may have also been their Brand Ambassador. Check out a few shots of the Soho experience below. Moving on, it’s no surprise that The Duchess of Sussex would have a low-key. It’s rumored her bridal shower doubled as her bachelorette with friends, and as quoted in Bride’s magazine “there were no ‘she’s tying the knot, so buy her shots’ t-shirts happening” for her last’ fling before the ring’. I foresee low-key bachelorettes definitely becoming a trend from here on out, how fun hosting your own spa themed party at a location like St. Anne’s Spa outside of Toronto, On? Wedding details Anyone who watched the royal wedding this past Saturday was amazed by theincredible floral arch at St. George’s Chapel. It included roses, peonies (Duchess Meghan’s favourite), and ferns. For sure, greenery with lush white florals has been a huge trend in 2018 and will continue into 2019. Although all the details of the reception party haven’t been released we do know that the newlyweds had both an afternoon and evening reception. The first reception was hosted by the Queen and held in St. George’s Hall. Canapes were served to guests, as well as this gorgeous lemon and elderflower syrup sponge cake. Which apparently used over 200 lemons! (source: People Royals) The second royal reception was held by Harry’s father, Prince Charles, at Frogmore House. Although not possible for many newlyweds, but having two receptions certainly helps ensure a happy guest list (twice the food, and Grandma can skip the second reception to forgo listening to the top 40 hits she begrudges).
The couple changed for their second reception (see video) , and it’s rumoured they chose to have their first dance to “I wanna dance with somebody” by Whitney Houston, rather than a traditional slow song. They capped the night off with a fireworks display! There’s been speculation of beer pong and ‘naughty’ speeches that evening (to be determined if this is true), but the rest is best left to find out in the next couple of weeks. All the best to the new royal couple! This post was submitted by contributor Sara Height. With the royal wedding fast approaching here's what we can expect Meghan Markle's makeup look to be like on her big day!
Meghan has never been a fan of foundation and prefers her natural skin and freckles to show. Her former makeup artist on Suits Lydia Seller revealed that Meghan never liked "a ton of foundation" and preferred a dewy, fresh face. It can be expected on her wedding day Meghan will go for a glowy complexion that showcases her natural freckles. In 2014 Megan shared with Allure her go to makeup look, "I call it the five-minute face. It's just Touché Eclat, curled lashes, mascara, Chap Stick, and a little bit of blush." She definitely prefers a look that is simple and let's her natural beauty shine. Her makeup looks leading up to the royal wedding have been consistent. She has chosen to stick with pink and peach blush tones, soft pink lips, brown eyeliner and mascara. Meghan sported this look during the engagement announcement, Christmas Day, and during the Invictus Games. Her wedding day look may very well be this. It's classic simple and polished look for a timeless event like a royal wedding! This post was submitted by contributor Xanthe Teller of Oh Sierra Creative. Investigating headlines from Meghan Markle’s engagement to Prince Harry, you see words like “unconventional,” “rule-breaking,” “biracial,” “controversial.” You expect to scroll down to see a scantily-clad party-goer, a picketing activist, or a generally rebellious, against-the-grain type of celebrity. But for the most part, what the public knew (or cared) about Meghan Markle prior to the engagement was slim to none, outside of her persona on the pop-culture phenomenon, Suits.
When looking at celebrity branding, it’s not dissimilar from building a character in a movie or television show. There is a team of people seated behind them to determine what their “voice,” should be. And don’t get us wrong — that totally *does* depend on their genuine personality. Many celebrities are *gasp!* people, too. People, first, actually. But just as an Instagram fitness guru or local business owner may represent their “authentic,” selves in the eyes of the public, there are many small facets of their personality that are shed and tucked away when it comes to public perception. At the root of all celebrities, there is a business. Businesses have core values, they have mission statements, they have brand colours, fonts, logos, community partners, and corporate social responsibility. Swap brand colours out for signature style pieces, community partners out for the lifestyle brands & designers they represent, and corporate social responsibility for their acts of philanthropy, and you’re looking at a parallel branding process. As her Suits fame grew and her background became a public discussion, Meghan refused to fall into the role of having led a charmed life — despite her father’s success as a photography director in Los Angeles throughout her upbringing. She created an affordable clothing line in 2016, further developing that side of her brand. On top of being considered an of-the-people style maven, a pillar of Meghan’s brand lay in her all-American approachable public appearances, as well as her globe-trotting philanthropy moves. “Humanitarian,” is a word used frequently when discussing the actress. In our business vs. celebrities parallel, we aren’t looking at a very different rebranding process either. Just like a business acquires strategic partners, celebrities make waves in the media when they link up with fellow celebs romantically. We may know who they are individually, but who are they together?! Businesses frequently undergo a total brand overhaul when they acquire a new ally — and Miss Markle is in for the overhaul of a lifetime. Meghan’s personal brand was an accessible one, peppered throughout a lifestyle blog entitled The Tig. The blog was like many others — fun & foodie-centric, with a chic and sophisticated face (and a hella sweet font profile, actually!), that focused on DIY deliciousness and lots and lots of travel surrounding social responsibility. A well-branded humanitarian indeed. She did an incredible job of connecting with “the people,” in the sense that it was easy to imagine her testing out new recipes at home, sampling new wines, and enjoying the simpler things in life the way many of us do. In her business relationships, the celebrity was often described as kind, bubbly, and full of smiles. |
