 JoJo Whilden / Netflix I've been MIA for the last few weeks since the Oscars nominations came out, but it's for a pretty good reason. I've been binge-watching and reviewing some of the amazing new Netflix Originals coming your way soon.
One that stood out to me was Seven Seconds - starring Regina King and David Lyons. In an instant, life is forever changed for Brenton Butler and his family. After a white cop accidentally hits and critically injures a black teenager, a northeastern city explodes with racial tensions, an attempted cover up and its aftermath, and the trial of the century. No matter where you stand regarding police brutality, you will 100% feel something every minute of every episode. It's uncomfortable, raw and relatable considering what we're currently dealing with in the real world. Regina King is a f*cking goddess, absolutely killing it in her role as the teen's mother. I think Seven Seconds is going to be getting a lot of buzz and it is possible for it to get a second season in light of the cliffhanger at the end of the final episode. Watching this was a bit challenging - both mentally and emotionally. I found myself having to take breaks and watching Friends in between episodes. I give Seven Seconds a 10/10. |
