Who would have thought a 16 year-old that has "the blues running though his veins" exists in the real world (Ridgeway, Ontario to be exact)? Spencer MacKenzie is one talented old soul. The musician released his debut album this past Friday appropriately titled Infected With The Blues and was excused from his high school class to chat with me about it.
Spencer's family and friends are extremely supportive, even though his friends haven't been exposed to blues music. We agreed that it's important to have a good support system. Everyone was coming out that night for the release party and I had to ask what he wanted listeners to get out of this. He said, "I want them to enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it". I finished off the Q&A session by asking one of my favourite interview questions: what is your personal definition of success? He thinks that it's never putting his guitar down and continuing to better himself. Did I already mention that he's only 16? Such a wise and humble young man.
