Unlike the Golden Globes, I got to watch the SAGs (Screen Actors Guild Awards) from start to finish - I even watched the red carpet (though I would have survived if I missed Giuliana Rancic saying amazing 50 times per minute). Here are some highlights:
1) Politics As if this is really that surprising, every celebrity who had the opportunity to speak into the mic had something to say about President Trump's travel ban. I just wrote a whole article using eight quotes from eight different stars including Best Supporting Actor Mahershala Ali, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Ashton Kutcher. It should be published on HuffPost Blogs within the next 24 hours. I will update this with the link when it is. 2) Stranger Things The Stranger Things kids give me life. Their excitement when they won the award for Best Ensemble In A Drama Series was unreal. What really stood out was David Harbour's long powerful speech which caught everyone off guard and had Winona Ryder making some strange faces (a clever Twitter user called her Wine-ona Rider). Watch below:
3) Shockers
What's an award show without some shockers? Let me just say that I am glad I didn't put in my Oscars picks yet because the SAGs just shook things up. Emma Stone (very deserving) beat out Natalie Portman and Meryl Streep for Best Actress; Denzel Washington beat out Casey Affleck for Best Actor (I'm sure many people are glad considering all of the sexual abuse accusations against Casey); and Hidden Figures won the Best Picture Award. I'm still trying to soak it all in. For a full list of winners, click here. Did you tune in? What do you think? Comment below or tweet me @MissSaverinaS! |
