I apologize for the lame title, I couldn't refuse such a great opportunity.
Last night's star-studded live production of Grease went better than I thought it would. There was a technical glitch here and there, a casting no no, but aside from that I give it an 8 out of 10. Aaron Tvait played Danny (wasn't feeling his acting even if he was hella cute and hella good at singing) and Julianne Hough took on Sandy (she was HOT). The rest of the cast included Vanessa Hudgens (she played Rizzo perfectly despite her father passing away on Saturday night), Keke Palmer, Carly Rae Jepsen, Mario Lopez and DNCE. From the beginning I had a serious issue with the casting choices for Danny and Kenickie. If anything the actors should have switched roles. Aaron wasn't doing Danny justice, but would have made a killer Kenickie, and Carlos PenaVega wasn't badass enough to play Kenickie however he could have pulled off Danny. Sigh. That really was my only beef with the show. Well, maybe I was a little bit disappointed to see new choreography for Grease Lightnin' as I had pulled the old moves out of the vault and was ready to dance along on my couch. There were a lot of familiar faces that made special appearances like Boys II Men singing Beauty School Dropout (hubba bubba) and Jessie J opening the show with Grease (the original is slightly better). And I need to give credit where it's due to the wardrobe department when it came down to having to change outfits in 11 seconds... I REPEAT, 11 SECONDS! Also, the finale was on point. Perhaps even better than the movie as the cast proceeded outside where there were actual fair rides up and running. I may or may not have shed a tear when it was all over. Did you tune in last night?
