I recently had the opportunity to chat with Gary Santucci, the director and producer of HERE'S JOHNNY. The show is opening on October 11th at The Pearl Company in Hamilton, Ontario. Check out our Q&A below: What inspired Here’s Johnny? HERE'S JOHNNY is a gritty tale drawn from the streets of an inner city neighbourhood, where questions are answered by more questions and choices often end badly. Inspired by true events showing us that caring is as rare as innocence. It is a place where anonymous actors walk the streets and hope is just a word. Look closely enough you may see yourself or someone you know and may not like it. How do you hope the audience will feel during and after the show? Running the gamut of dark to humorous, touching to tragic, from the absurd to very real, Here’s Johnny provokes a response in the audience of outrage to discomfort, rattling our cages as only street life can do. The characters may not be all likeable however they are all human, deeply flawed in many ways. Why should people check this out? The audience will be immersed in the 24/7 chatter and mayhem of the streets through the comings and goings of people who inhabit the public realm as proprietary owners of the streets, individuals who are oblivious to the effects of their deeds and actions layered upon the residents of the neighbourhood.
