#FunFriday: Q&A with Daniel Hyams

This guy is the first person everyone should think of when someone mentions the city of Hamilton. You would never even know that Daniel Hyams wasn't born and raised there because of all of the love he has for the hammer.

Daniel was actually raised in London, England and left everything he knew behind and immigrated to Canada back in 2012. I, along with many other people, are thankful for this. It has been 3.5 years since he made the big move and now he has a Cable 14 show called Coming to Hamilton and recently launched C2H Mag. Check out our Q&A below:

What is your favourite thing about Hamilton and what about the city made you want to spread the word through a magazine and TV show?

I guess my favourite thing about the city is that it welcomed me in.  I was not meant to be here when I came 3.5 years ago, I was determined to go to Toronto, because that was all that I knew and all I could relate to, coming from a major global city like London, UK.  But destiny had other plans! That’s not to say it has been easy… Far from it, I think that success can make actions look easy, and there have been more failures than successes.  I think that’s the same for everyone, we just don’t always talk about the failures, which is a shame because we can learn much more from them than actual success.  So, my motivator for the TV show and magazine was to highlight Hamilton as a city of people choosing to come here, choosing to settle, stay and contribute through various ways and means.

Who do you hope to eventually collaborate with for the magazine?

I want to collaborate with everyone and anyone who wants to be a part of this and who can relate.  This is a community-led project, not a business venture for me. I don’t want to own and run another business at the moment, and for the foreseeable future.  If you feel you can and want to play a part, come aboard!  That’s not just in writing for the mag, but ways to expand and excel the concept.  Help me take this forward for all of us to share in.  I plan to arrange a series of ficus groups soon to gather ideas and feedback, so stay tuned!

Where can we find C2H Mag?

It’s in numerous locations but definitely at True Hamiltonian store on Ottawa St and Durand Coffee on Charlton W & Caroline.  They both were major contributors to content, so you’re bound to grab a copy there! Also, it's free to download online at www.issuu.com/ba93 which is named after my flight number when I came here.
