With such an important and significant year for our Country, you better believe that there’s a ton of awesome events and celebrations popping up all over the place to showcase that True North pride and heritage of ours. And Hamilton is definitely no exception to that. Here’s our list of 5 must-attend Canada 150 events happening in Hamilton, Ontario. Enjoy! 1 | Coast to Coast Canada 150 PromenadeEvent Dates: June 15, 2017 Event Location: Gore Park (1 Hughson Street South) Admission: $10.00 (get your tickets here) On June 15th, join the Dwntwn Hamilton BIA in Gore Park as they host a community picnic to kick off the Canada 150 celebrations. The evening will include a performance by the Hamilton Ariel Group, an aerial arts club making the circus arts accessible to the community, and their APOIDEA show. Comedy magician Graeme Reed will also be on hand to delight guests. 2 | Piece by Piece: Stitching Together Canadian StoriesEvent Dates: July 10 – August 16, 2017 Event Location: The Cotton Factory (270 Sherman Ave North) Admission: Various (view the full list of events here) Between July 10th and August 16th, The Cotton Factory will host the Quilt of Belonging; a 120-foot textile art project comprised of 263 blocks each of which was created to recognize a different part of Canadian diversity. It is a celebration of common humanity and promotes compassion among people. This Canadian icon Exhibit will also include daily program. Programming is continuous and diverse, and was developed to include a breadth of activities from a variety of cultural groups within the region of Hamilton Halton and Brant. It includes the following elements: weekly demonstrations, weekend workshops, Thursday night talks, Friday night performances, Saturday night concerts, and a grand opening event on July 10th! 3 | Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships RegattaEvent Dates: June 30 – July 1, 2017 Event Location: Pier 8 (47 Discovery Dr) Admission: $25.00-$30.00 On June 30th, the majestic Tall Ships make their return to Hamilton’s Pier 8, following their successful visit in the summer of 2013. This must-see spectacle includes 11 vessels that navigate around Hamilton’s Harbour in a single file formation before finally docking at Pier 8. If you’re looking for prominent vantage points to view the Tall Ships parade, locations include: Pier 8, Bayfront & Pier 4 Parks, York Boulevard Bridge, Burlington Canal and Fisherman’s Pier, Eastport Dr, and LasSalle and Bayshore Parks in Burlington. 4 | Canada Day Celebrations at BayfrontEvent Dates: July 1, 2017 Event Location: Bayfront Park (200 Harbour Front Dr) Admission: FREE! This Canada Day celebration will begin around 3pm with the opening ceremony taking place on the RBC Stage. Enjoy family friendly programming (including food trucks and various activities), followed by live music (performed on the RBC Stage) and capping off the night with a finale of dazzling fireworks accompanied by an orchestral arrangement performed live by Maestro Boris Brott and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada. 5 | Air Force Day – Past, Present & FutureEvent Dates: Saturday, July 8, 2017 Event Location: Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum (9280 Airport Rd) Admission: $15.00-$20.00 This Canada 15 signature event gives you the unique opportunity to meet and connect with current members of the Royal Canadian Air Force, learn the roles that each of these individuals perform on a daily basis and get a chance to see aircrafts up close.
