You may recognize the guy in the picture above from his time as "the villain" on The Bachelorette Canada, but there's more to him than that. Drew Classen is doing some good in the world by launching Class of Villain, where all of the proceeds go to Ronald McDonald House charities. He was kind enough to spare some time to chat about his brand, success and setting goals. Check out our interview below: What's the story behind Class of Villain? There are a few different reasons why I decided to start Class of Villain. I've done a lot of charity work throughout my life and most of it being with Ronald McDonald House in London, Ontario. There's actually a toy room named after myself and a few of my best friends "The Boys" in the London house. Sick kids get to enter the pirate themed toy room with a password and pick a toy of their choice after a procedure or on a birthday etc. It's something we are proud of; making a small difference in a child's terrible day and during a terrible time in their life. The name itself "Class of Villain" took some time to come up with. I think it's hilarious that I’m the villain and so do my friends, family and frankly everyone that takes the time to stop me in the streets of Toronto and ask, “Are you Drew from the Bachelor? And are you really an asshole?" They quickly realize the truth. Everyone goes on TV to be on TV no matter what they say in interviews. I'm just the first to come out and be honest about my purpose on the show. The best way to be on TV is to cause some drammmmmaaaaa! And I guess drama classifies you as a Villain; hence “Class of Villain”. I also wanted to perform distinctively on and off the show. Included in that is using whatever attention I received from it for something other than myself. I could easily sell some Villain branded hats and make some money but I would rather use the attention for something selfless; hence “the Class a Villain can have”. How would you define success? As I get older and wiser I realize that success to me is to be happy every day. I try to do this with balance. I do realize I am a businessman and yes that carrot keeps moving and yes there are necessary monetary achievements in order for me to live a certain way that makes me happy. But I try to balance work with a social life, travel and down time. I try to slow myself down to realize all the good things in my life and attempt to enjoy every second with a smile on my face. I try to be happy as much as I can because in the end a happy life is a successful one to me. Do you have a system that you use to set and achieve goals? You probably noticed me urging my “younger brother” Chris on The Bachelorette Canada to tell her about his “5 year plan”. I will start off by stating that I absolutely hate the term “5 year plan”. That term has come up in about 50% of any interview I have ever had and I still wonder the purpose of it. My answer, “Yes sir, my 5 year plan sir, will be working for you sir” (or ma’am) makes me cringe every time and I think it’s because I view setting/achieving goals and planning different than most. Most of my larger accomplishments have fallen in my lap in a sense. I am not saying they came easy at all but they were opportunities that presented themselves to me and I chose to take them. Did I set these goals? No. did I plan on achieving them? Yes. I think that if you set too many goals out of reach (say 5 years from now) you may miss the opportunities that are present. You may be blinded in a way with your obsession of accomplishing a goal that may actually be unattainable. For people that set and achieve goals with a set agenda; life may become hard. To answer your question truthfully, I don’t have a goal planning system anymore (if that makes any sense at all). A new trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has been released. Johnny Depp's beloved character Captain Jack Sparrow is in trouble (what a surprise), on the run and pantless (now that I didn't see coming). The trailer for the fifth instalment dropped exclusively on Ellen. I won't be seeing it, but you may want to. Like it or not, water makes up 70%. Water helps us for saliva to help with digestion, it nourishes our brain so it can think clearly and create the right hormones. It helps regulate body temperature through sweating. It helps the body flush waste through urine and bowel movements. It helps deliver oxygen all over the body which is essential for cell survival. Now most of us won’t get clinically dehydrated but know that failure to drink enough water can start to cause many of the symptoms you seek a doctor to treat: dry, wrinkly skin, poor memory function, foggy brain, stiff joints and weight gain (most of us over eat when we’re actually over thirsty). Is there a minimum/maximum requirement we should be meeting when it comes to daily water consumption? To keep it simple, I recommend putting a decimal after the first number in your weight and drinking that many liters of water. For instance, 130lbs = 1.3L water minimum per day. What are some ways we can make water more desirable? I love adding frozen fruit, ginger slices, mint leaves or citrus slices to my water. There are even water bottles you can purchase that allow you to put flavouring in the bottom and it diffuses into the water without you worrying about consuming it. These are much better options to the flavoured liquids or powders found at the grocery store – those are filled with nothing but liquid chemicals and dyes and are very bad for your health. |
