This post was submitted by contributor Dana Mancini. It's that time of the year again! Award season has officially begun, and that means people watching gets WAY better. This year's fashion at the SAG Awards were very glamorous, but I've narrowed it down to three of my fave looks. 70's. If you don't know me already, I am a sucker for 70's disco fashion. Yes, take me back to the ABBA days and leave me there to embrace sequin flares, platforms and skinny scarves. Last Sunday, Michelle Williams boogied down the red carpet wearing a 70's inspired sequin striped gown by the one and only, Louis Vuitton. Her pixie hairstyle complimented the dress so well that any other hairstyle with this dress would look wrong. The elongating stripes would compliment all body shapes, perceiving any woman to be as tall as Heidi Klum. Because of you, Michelle, now I'm listening to Dancing Queen for the rest of the week. SEXY. What's sexier than a LBD? Emma Stone's Alexander McQueen LBD! (Duh?). I officially have a girl crush on Emma for rocking that gorgeous lingerie inspired dress. Emma is never one to dress risqué, but this dress has the perfect balance of sexy and feminine in the most tasteful way. Way to go Emma, because of your perfect LBD, we're all going to be broke! FEMININE. There's nothing like the feeling of slipping into a beautiful feminine white dress. I could only imagine how Kirsten Dunst felt wearing that gorgeous Dior gown at this year's SAG awards. It was fit for a bride. The gown had the perfect amount of sparkle just on the straps, and the ruffled, layered fabric created the most deliacate presence as she gracefully floated down the red carpet. She never ceases to disappoint when it comes to her fashion choices. Kirsten, you looked jaw-droppingly angelic. It's not always about the gown or the outfit. It all has to do with how the outfit compliments who is wearing it. In my eyes, Michelle, Emma and Kirsten are the definition of #FashionGoals for this year's SAG Awards. That being said, I am looking forward to more red carpet people watching for the rest of the award season!
Definitely didn't see this coming.
What better way to announce your exit from a reality competition series than via a lengthy post on Facebook. He said, "As a man, an artist and a voice for my community, I will not be silenced." Why is he leaving? Nick said his job was in jeopardy after he did a comedy special "intended to bring communities closer". His NBC bosses were not happy about a joke regarding his time hosting AGT. The joke in question: "I honestly believe, once I started doing 'America's Got Talent', they took my real n****r card." Nick doesn't not see himself returning to the show as "his should won't allow him to be in business with corporations that attempt to frown on freedom of speech, censor artists, and question cultural choices." What are your thoughts on this? I'm still trying to absorb all of this. I'm excited to launch a new Q&A series with a variety of trainers in Hamilton and Toronto discussing different ways to approach living a healthy lifestyle.
Here is my first Q&A with trainer Spencer Barlow: What is your unique approach to fitness/health? My unique approach to working out is all about the basics. Everyone should be able to move with full range of motion and eat all food from the earth. Knowing why you are doing something such as getting active or eating healthy gives you a clear understanding of the benefits and importance of this lifestyle. I use fitness as a way to maintain my mental health, not just physical. Born with ADHD I am prone to procrastination and scattered brain mentality, so knowing that dedicating 45 minutes a day to maintain a clear focus mindset allows me grow to be a stronger individual in all aspects of my life. Is there anything that people should know or do before they embark on their fitness journey? Before embarking on changing your lifestyle to meet the needs of physical activity, people need to emphasize why they are doing something: there needs to be an emotional connection to feel better in their own skin. Health and fitness is all about giving back to yourself, to show love to the machine that makes you think, breathe, and move. Creating a vision board, goals board, finding an accountability partner, hiring a trainer, nutritionist to learn to eat properly, and knowing their why are great ways to start to create the ideal lifestyle they are looking for. It takes time and patience but if you look at the bigger picture such as living life for longevity than it will simply become second nature. How can you maintain a healthy lifestyle? Make living a healthy lifestyle FUN, it shouldn't feel like a chore or torture. If you do not find it fun to workout in a global gym, then continue to get outside of your comfort zone. Try out a bootcamp class, yoga, personal trainer, sports teams, outside activities, trail running with friends or joining a run group. There are so many ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle you just need to find the right style that fits you.
It's Valentine's day, a day some people live for, and a day some people dread. For me, it's just another Tuesday. I'll be spending it with my fur babe Versace and the other love of my life... Coffee! Since this is an entertainment blog, let's check out what our favourite celebs are doing on this "special" day.
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen These two make the perfect couple. John and Chrissy made a special (and steamy) V-Day video for LOVE Magazine.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
These two don't have anything planned, but Blake did throw a "Galentine's Day" bash celebrating the worth of women. She even had a wall that said "I am worth _____".
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
So we don't actually know what these two are doing for love day, BUT Meghan reflected on her ideal way to celebrate back when she was single in a piece she wrote for her website last year. She said, "I think you need to cook that beautiful dinner even when it's just you, wear your favorite outfit, buy yourself some flowers, and celebrate the self love that often gets muddled when we focus on what we don't have".
So couples, enjoy this day (and really everyday); single peeps - love yourselves!
It's time to sum up the biggest night in the music industry... The GRAMMYs! I wouldn't say that they were amazing, but the show also didn't suck. It left me with a lot to think about (including the pic above of CeeLo Green --- erm his new persona Gnarles Davidson). Here were some highlights (or at least in my opinion): 1) Beyoncé - As if you didn't think I was going to write about her, come on! Everyone was speechless after she hit the stage looking f*cking flawless showcasing some serious goddess vibes. My producer Harmony and I had an interesting theory about how perhaps the performance was inspired by a hormonal dream (she's expecting twins in case you didn't know and have been living under a rock). Harmony went on to break it down: 2) Adele - This was her night. She beat Beyoncé, f*cked up George Michael's tribute but recovered by swearing and starting over, and just proved that she is just like us... Human! Adele received sympathy and a standing O when she broke down at the end of her performance. And I can't get over how she addressed Beyoncé during her acceptance speech for Album of the Year. She said, "What the f*ck does she have to does she have to do to win?" along with wishing Bey was her mom. I feel her on so many levels. She brought Queen Bey to tears! 3) Blue Ivy - I just can't handle this kid. She is living my dream life - her parents are Jay and Bey. And when she crashed the Cardboard Karaoke bit, OMG! 4) Metallica and Lady Gaga - Who can forget the time the GRAMMYs f*cked over Metallica with Laverne Cox forgetting to mention them in the intro and James Hetfield's mic not working? Ah, good times (for those watching, not Metallica). 5) Prince Tribute - Morris Day and the Time and Bruno Mars caused me to have a little dance party in my living room. Probably my favourite performance of the night (next to Beyoncé's). For a full list of winners, click here. Did you tune in? What are your thoughts?
