UPDATES:
- Kourtney Kardashian (on Instagram): "Believing in the power of prayer for this beautiful soul!" - In case you were wondering, Kanye West is home taking care of North West and Kourtney Kardashian's three children Mason, Penelope and Reign. (More than likely there's a nanny by his side or some kind of additional help because I can't picture Yeezus handling four children all by himself.) - TMZ is reporting that Lamar's prognosis has worsened. Doctors are concerned that he has been unconscious for too long and the chance of survival has lessened. Four of his organs - including his kidneys - continue to fail. - Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Kris Jenner and Rob Kardashian have all asked for prayers for Lamar on their social media accounts. Kylie Jenner (on Instagram): "Let's dance again together soon. Prayers up for Lamar please." Kendall Jenner (on Twitter): "Please don't go." Kris Jenner (on Instagram): "Please pray for Lamar. #ourfighter" Rob Kardashian (on Instagram): "Praying nonstop for my brother!!" ____________________________________________________________________________________ These past few days have been extremely rough for the Kardashian and Odom families. Lamar Odom (NBA player and ex-Kardashian husband) was found unconscious at a brothel in Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon and rushed to a nearby hospital. He was said to be there this past weekend to escape unknown troubles and to just have a good time. Two of the girls at the brothel had found Lamar unconscious and were instructed while on call with 911 to turn him on his side. He proceeded to spit up pink liquids. Yesterday it was confirmed that there were drugs found in his system - including crack cocaine, the drug that led to the end of his marriage with Khloe Kardashian in 2013. Fun fact: though Khloe and Lamar signed off on all of their divorce papers, they have yet to be reviewed by a judge so they are still legally married. Rumour has it that Lamar suffered a mini stroke from consuming so many drugs which caused a blood clot to block oxygen from entering the brain. He has been placed on life support and has not awoken or responded in anyway. It does not look good with reports claiming that his heart is failing, and that there is damage to his kidneys, lungs and brain. Khloe has not left his side since entering the hospital. She flew in with mom Kris Jenner late Tuesday night and has been joined by sisters Kim, Kourtney, and Kendall and was kind enough to fly in his father, two children (and their mother). Caitlyn Jenner is also making her way to Las Vegas along with many of Lamar's former teammates and managers. His condition is so critical that Kim has cancelled her baby shower that was supposed to be this weekend. We all have our demons, and some of us get defeated by them. We really can't judge Lamar Odom unless we're in his shoes. I have been keeping the Odom and Kardashian families in my thoughts and prayers and hope that you can do the same. New details are being revealed every minute so be sure to follow me @MissSaverinaS for the latest on this devastating story. Remember that tweet/Instagram post that I sent out last week about the lovely woman that shot a special episode of Cable 14's Hamilton Life and made my day by giving me a notebook to write my goals and dreams in because they'll be 46% more likely to happen? (That was a mouthful and a half). Well, she (Cher Obediah) just so happens to be this week's #WCW honouree! Check out our Q&A below:
When and how did you decide to connect with your roots? I started to get curious as a teenager and seemed to gravitate towards the Native kids in high school. I ended up joining the Native Club. Since then, I found ways to incorporate culture into different chapters of my life. When I wanted to go to theatre school, I applied to the Native Theatre School in Toronto. When I studied Journalism, it was at First Nations Technical Institute in their Aboriginal Media program. I also worked at a First Nations production company. Having said that there's a very distinct difference between having some level of understanding and an actual sense of belonging and connectedness. Becoming a powwow dancer last year has begun to fill that void in a powerful way. I'm extremely proud of myself. Did your past experiences in the television and film industry help you make Don’t Just Talk About It? In what way(s)? Immensely, yes. I've grown comfortable taking concepts, and adding elements of good storytelling. I started in the news with 90 second clips and got more in-depth at a production company where I really zoned in on all areas and honed my craft. I moved on from there to start my own production company and naturally progressed into film. I'm at an exciting point in my life and career where the hunger for more is being fed in various ways. I feel like a sponge and I'm loving it. What can we learn from watching and supporting this? Don't Just Talk About It has broad appeal. We've all had moments of accomplishment and know how great it feels. The film represents it's title and encourages people to listen to their intuition and live the life they were intended to live. The inspiring messages are delivered through my personal story of transformation from city girl to powwow dancer. Ironically the dance I learned is Women's Fancy Shawl, also known as the butterfly dance. In essence I emerged from my cocoon with colorful wings of dance that for so many years I thought only belonged to the privileged. The story may be mine but it offers strength and begs the individual question of positive transformation. The accompanying interviews, educate on the power of mind, human psychology, Indigenous culture, regalia, dance and history. The motivational messages throughout help guide us through the stages of accomplishment. How can we support the doc? Unless you're involved in the industry you may not fully understand that the landscape for documentary funding has dramatically changed. As a member of the Doc Institute, I attend their networking and educational opportunities where the bleak reality of funding is almost always a topic of discussion. Indiegogo is a crowd sourcing platform originally born for filmmakers and has become a viable way to bring projects to life, build an audience and network with like minds. I currently have an Indiegogo Campaign running and it can be found on the web by searching Don’t Just Talk About It Cher Obediah. All the project details are there with an option to donate or donate in exchange for perks. I decided to run my Indiegogo for a quick 30 days because research supported that, however I also chose flex funding which means the project is set up to accept donations past the deadline. Since this is my first one I was worried it may not be enough time to connect with the right eyes. Are there more documentaries in your future or are you going to see where this takes you? I’m going to be a documentary-making machine! I have so many inspiring ideas I want to share with the world! I do currently have three other projects I’ve researched and plan to move forward with. I have to pace myself sometimes because I see so many areas where education and awareness can lend significantly. It’s not that I wasn’t aware of the need or causes before and I always did what I could on an individual level, however now I feel like it’s my job if not my duty to use my creative talents in a purposeful way on an international level. ____________________________________________________________________________________ It doesn't matter what nationality you are or where you are in your life, we can ALL relate to Cher Obediah and the message that she is trying to send with her documentary. That is exactly what was discussed on Hamilton Life Lessons. We all eventually go on a little adventure to find ourselves. Some find themselves sooner than later, and others may always be drawn to a certain way of life (like Cher) but may not get the chance to discover why. It's all very mind-blowing to me. I think that this documentary could really make a difference in the world and if you feel the same way, you should consider supporting the doc, or at least sharing the link. Please feel free to follow and tweet Cher here. Your support will help tremendously with the smallest actions like being an active supporter on social media. Now that Canadian Thanksgiving has passed, I am free to get excited for the most wonderful time of year... Award season!
Though it's not starting just yet, the American Music Awards are a warmup for all of the excitement that is to come. Joe Jonas and Charlie Puth announced the 2015 AMA nominees on the Today show this morning and there weren't too many surprises. Taylor Swift basically rules the world, so it's not a shock that she's leading with 6 nominations, and The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran following closely behind with 5 each. Other nominees include Sam Smith, Nicki Minaj, and Megan Trainor. See the full list here. Now let's talk about all of the juicy details like what could possibly go down at the AMAs when they air live on ABC on November 22nd (mark it on the calendar). JLo is hosting, but I doubt anything out of the ordinary is going to happen. Let's just pray that she does a better job than Pitbull, because the American Music Awards have been painful to watch the last couple of years when he hosted. The only reason why they kept him, and probably why they have Jennifer Lopez this year, is because the award show drew in a lot of Latin viewers versus previous years. And even though Miley Cyrus isn't nominated, I really hope that she shows up to sort out her issues with Nicki Minaj (nominated for 4 AMAs). The MTV Video Music Awards left us with a lot of questions in terms of the feud, and then we were even more intrigued after Nicki's interview published in the New York Times. Don't lie, you'd love to see the two go at it! As we get closer to the show day, performers and presenters will be announced. Did I mention that I love this time of year? Do you think anyone got snubbed, or are all of the nominated artists deserving? What are you looking forward to seeing? Comment below or tweet me @MissSaverinaS! You read that right.
If you're like me and not a fan of James Bond, no need to worry because he isn't a fan of himself either. Well, Daniel Craig (the actor who plays James Bond) isn't a fan. He told Time Out London that "[he'd] rather slash the glass in [his] hands and slash [his] wrists". Woa, a little extreme - no?! Daniel says that he just wants a break and would like to move on from the Bond series. When asked who he would prefer to play the part he said he didn't care. He's happy as long as they finish in a good place and the next person makes the film better. Now that's reasonable. There are a lot of s and f-bombs present throughout the article I must note. Daniel Craig seems like a pretty relaxed person and I can definitely see where he's coming from. When you're playing such a major character who has been around since the beginning of time (exaggerating just a tad), it's hard to escape. You're pretty much referred to as the character and not as a human being for all of eternity. What do you think of Daniel Craig's comments? Who do you think should play James Bond next? Comment below or tweet me @MissSaverinaS! Just when you thought it was over. There's still a lot of tension between Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus at the VMAs after Nicki called out Miley for what she said about her in a New York Times interview. Guess where Nicki decided to take out her frustrations? In her own New York Times interview!
Yup, the drama continues (and I love it because it keeps my job entertaining). You can read the full article via The Hollywood Reporter, but all you need to know is that Nicki was not at all faking her anger with Miley that night. She's pissed off that Miley embraces the black culture, but doesn't want to hear what bothers them. Interesting point. Nicki also claims that Miley Cyrus has big balls. A very interesting point. It's all really catty, but it definitely starts a much needed conversation about how the industry treats artists of colour and whether or not there are loopholes for artists of different shapes and sizes. I pray we won't have to wait as long for a response from Miley as we did from Nicki after the VMAs. It's been two months for crying out loud! What do you think?
