In honour of #BellLetsTalk Day, here's my story.
A year ago I could smile but couldn't feel the emotion that went along with it. No matter how hard I tried I felt nothing and it showed in everything I did - especially my work on-air. I had hot flashes on set of Cable 14’s Teen Talk, felt nauseous and weak, my motivation and ambition were nowhere to be found, my brain owned me and I suffered from multiple panic attacks. It was a very dark and confusing time. It happened around the time when everything changed in my life at once. There were some complications with my kidney disease, I started a new chapter in my life leaving school days behind me, etc. I was inspired by last year’s Bell Let’s Talk campaign to be honest with myself and seek help leading me to learn that I had anxiety and depression. My amazing therapist helped me go from having 28 symptoms to 2 which I didn't think was possible. To this day, I still battle with my mind, but if it wasn't for Bell Let’s Talk Day, I'd probably still be struggling silently. Let's break the stigma. Get involved today by using the hashtag #BellLetsTalk on Twitter and Instagram and Bell will donate 5 cents fund mental health research. If Bell is your service provider, you can send texts using the hashtag and will count. I am extremely blessed to have such an amazing support system in my personal life and professional life. It is important to know that you are not alone. Sending lots of love to each and every one of you reading this. If you are suffering and need someone to talk to, call 1-800-273-TALK. |
