As another round of award show nominations come in, we get one step closer to the ones that count... The Academy Awards! But first, the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards need to happen so we shall break down each category.
I am extremely shocked that Mad Max: Fury Road is getting so much award season love! When I think of an award-nominated worthy movie, I think of films like Spotlight, The Revenant, and the rest of Mad Max's competition. Mad Max strikes me as more of an MTV Movie Awards winner. A film that did not land a spot on previous award show nomination lists is Sicario - although I thought it would get more love than Mad Max: Fury Road. And just to clear it up, we are talking about who's up for Best Picture. For Best Actor, the names on the list are one and the same as the SAGs and Golden Globes. Best Actress is similar, except for Charlotte Rampling (45 Years) appearing for the first time this award season. Supporting Actor nominees are no different, although I do not think Tom Hardy (The Revenant) has been nominated for a SAG or Golden Globe. Rooney Mara has landed a spot in the Supporting Actress category just like the SAGs, however the Golden Globes have her listed as a contender for Best Actress. We'll see what the Academy voters decide. Up for Acting Ensemble (usually synonymous with Best Picture) are Spotlight, Trumbo, Straight Outta Compton, The Big Short and The Hateful Eight. Overall, from three rounds of award show nominations, I think Trumbo has a good shot at winning all of the awards. Spotlight could possibly be the winner too, but has a better chance at being the runner-up.
