My Christmas holidays have officially started and I'm celebrating by watching Barbara Walters' Most Fascinating People 2015 edition special. I always go in driving myself crazy trying to figure out which celeb she thinks is most fascinated and come out disappointed. Last year's honouree was Amal Clooney, George Clooney's wife. Ugh.
The individuals that have been revealed to be on this year's list are Amy Schumer, Bradley Cooper, Tracy Morgan, Ronda Rousey, Misty Copeland, Bernie Sanders and Donna Karan. I'm betting that Caitlyn Jenner has a good shot at landing the #1 spot, how about you? It all goes down tonight on ABC at 9:30pm and you can find me tweeting my thoughts @MissSaverinaS. We just wrapped up episode 2 of Cable 14's Teen Talk focusing on teen making a difference and I thought I would share a picture from set. We had a panel discussion with volunteers Dana Roberts and Amanda Pope, then sat down with Godfrey Coutto (pictured above) to discuss his recent fame from an act of kindness that made headlines across the globe.
This episode will air on Cable 14 (available to Rogers, Cogeco and Source cable/internet subscribers) on Saturday at 6:30pm and Monday at 8:30am and 12:30pm. I am feeling extra reflective these days with 2015 quickly coming to a close.
I didn't think it was possible for this year to be 10 times better than 2014. Last year was as exciting as I thought my life could possibly get with filming the pilot for The Saverina Show on Cable 14 and launching www.saverinascozzari.weebly.com. Well, I was wrong. Some highlights of 2015: - Filming 2 more episodes of The Saverina Show - A huge increase in page views - Launching www.saverinascozzari.com - 4 appearances and counting on TMZ Live - Joining Teen Talk - Becoming the assistant producer and floor director for Hamilton Life - Assisting on Hamilton Eats shoots It is mind-blowing to think of everything that has been accomplished this year, but all of it wouldn't be possible without some very special people, new and old in my life. First, to the kind people at Cable 14 (Harmony, Linda, James, Dan and Danielle). Thank you for being straight up with me about the ins and outs of the TV industry. There are too many people who dish out loads of crap versus those who are real about what's great, and what sucks about their jobs. I found myself surrounded by food A LOT this year with my roles behind the scenes for Hamilton Life and Hamilton Eats. HL is always a blast, and there's never a dull moment. Whether it be switching around segments 2 minutes before filming, or tracking down guests/talent, we (almost) always end the show with smiles on our faces. I get to see firsthand what it takes to make a show and put it on the air from a producer's aspect thanks to Linda for taking me under her wing for the year. Working with James and Dan on Hamilton Eats never goes according to the plan and never leaves me with an empty stomach. I've learned so much from James, especially when it comes to balancing giving in and standing up for what you believe in. Dan is just a pure joy - if I wasn't working with him and James, I would probably never taste sushi or Carribean food. I guess we can say they've brought out my adventurous side. Danielle has no filter and I wouldn't want her to be any different. She's guaranteed to make you laugh even on your worst days. She's inspired me to have fun in front of the camera and be in the moment. Finally, we have Harmony. No matter what, she never loses faith in me - even when I lose faith in myself. She's pushed me to do things that I thought I hated, but learned to love. Gosh, I don't think it's normal to like the people you work with this much. I certainly cannot forget to thank my parents for their constant support. They've been live-in chauffeurs and camera people and have yet to complain about it. And they know when to give me a reality check to bring me back to planet earth, haha. I think my brain would probably explode if I had to make any decision without them. And last, but not least - to my friends, family and readers/viewers. You guys rock! I can't wait to see what 2016 brings and to share whatever comes my way with you. What were some of the highlights of your year? Comment below or tweet me @MissSaverinaS! As another round of award show nominations come in, we get one step closer to the ones that count... The Academy Awards! But first, the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards need to happen so we shall break down each category.
I am extremely shocked that Mad Max: Fury Road is getting so much award season love! When I think of an award-nominated worthy movie, I think of films like Spotlight, The Revenant, and the rest of Mad Max's competition. Mad Max strikes me as more of an MTV Movie Awards winner. A film that did not land a spot on previous award show nomination lists is Sicario - although I thought it would get more love than Mad Max: Fury Road. And just to clear it up, we are talking about who's up for Best Picture. For Best Actor, the names on the list are one and the same as the SAGs and Golden Globes. Best Actress is similar, except for Charlotte Rampling (45 Years) appearing for the first time this award season. Supporting Actor nominees are no different, although I do not think Tom Hardy (The Revenant) has been nominated for a SAG or Golden Globe. Rooney Mara has landed a spot in the Supporting Actress category just like the SAGs, however the Golden Globes have her listed as a contender for Best Actress. We'll see what the Academy voters decide. Up for Acting Ensemble (usually synonymous with Best Picture) are Spotlight, Trumbo, Straight Outta Compton, The Big Short and The Hateful Eight. Overall, from three rounds of award show nominations, I think Trumbo has a good shot at winning all of the awards. Spotlight could possibly be the winner too, but has a better chance at being the runner-up. For a full list of noms (like the Oscars, the Critics' Choice Awards are very technical resulting in a 1000000 categories - I'm exaggerating, of course) click here. After you've carefully analyzed the list of nominees, comment your thoughts below or tweet me @MissSaverinaS! All opinions are welcome. Brace yourselves for another harsh award show category and nominee breakdown, but this time for the 2016 Golden Globes.
I thought these nominations would put me at more ease than yesterday's SAG award nominations (see my breakdown of those here), and oh how I was wrong. I'm just more confused as to who's going to win what. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I don't give a flying who about the TV categories (#sorrynotsorry), so this is solely a breakdown of the film categories. Let's do this! Up for Best Actor in a Drama, all of the SAG nominees are here except for Johnny Depp (Black Mass) and it seems he is replaced by Will Smith (Concussion). There have yet to be any reviews based on Will Smith's work in Concussion, but critics certainly have a lot to say about Johnny Depp's performance in Black Mass. It will most definitely be interesting to see if one or both of them have a chance at an Oscar in that category. There's a chance for those who weren't nominated for the SAG for Best Actor since there are two categories. For Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, we have Christian Bale (The Big Short), Steve Carrell (The Big Short - I smell an intense competition coming our way), Matt Damon (The Martian - his chances of winning an award at all weren't looking the greatest since he got snubbed of a nom yesterday), Al Pacino (Danny Collins - genius actor), and Mark Ruffalo (Infinitely Polar Bear - what is this and why have I never heard of it?). I can't help but notice that Mark Ruffalo, along with his fellow cast members, were not nominated for their work in Spotlight yesterday AND today. For some reason, a huge part of me is #TeamSpotlight regardless of how many nominations they do or don't gather. The leading ladies have been split up into two categories as well. Competing for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy are Jennifer Lawrence (Joy - we will more than likely see her embrace her clumsiness on the red carpet, stage, or both), Melissa McCarthy (Spy - she's really making a name for herself), Amy Schumer (Trainwreck), Maggie Smith (The Lady in the Van - yet another film that I have never heard of), and Lily Tomlin (Grandma - am I just out of the loop?). Now don't lie, you too are rooting for Amy Schumer because she's the funniest and realest human being on the planet. The second and final leading lady category is for Best Actress in a Drama which gives us all of the same nominees as the SAGs, with the exception of Helen Mirren (Woman in Gold) and instead of landing a spot in the supporting actress category, Rooney Mara (Carol) has been included in this category which is absolutely incredible because the film's storyline is not the norm for these kind of award shows. I'm pretty sure it'll be between Rooney and her co-star Cate Blanchett. I cannot contain my excitement! A few more categories to go, hang in there! As for the supporting roles, we'll start with the supporting actresses featuring the same nominees as the SAGs (very reassuring for those who's brains were going to explode *cough* me *cough*) and added in are Jane Fonda (Youth) and Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight). Lord Jesus! I can't even think of who's going to win this one. Supporting actors are one and the same with newbies Sylvester Stallone (Creed) and Paul Dano (Love and Mercy). It would be nice to see Sylvester win this and the odds may be in his favour with all of the raving reviews coming his way. Although, I kind of wish they didn't make Creed. I feel like there isn't any creativity or originality left in Hollywood, but that's another story for another day. And the final category (at least that I'll be discussing in this post), Best Motion Picture divided up into two based on their genre. The nominated dramas are Carol, Mad Max: Fury Road (really?), The Revenant (go Leo), Room (potential winner) and Spotlight (they can do it if they set their minds to it - paraphrased from Blues Clues). I feel that these all have a good shot except for Mad Max: Fury Road. Maybe because I'm not into the whole feminist movement? The nominated comedies/musicals are Joy, Trainwreck, The Martian, The Big Short, and Spy. #TeamTrainwreck for this one. Well, that's all of the info I can wrap my brain around.
