It's time for the AGH BMO World Film Festival, taking place from October 13th (tomorrow!) to October 22nd. They've been known to showcase the best in world cinema for over 8 years there are a variety of events and screenings that you can (and should) attend. Here are 5 films I'm interested in checking out: Long Time Running (pictured above) Friday, October 13th @ 9:30pm Lincoln Alexander Centre "The powerful 2016 final tour of Canadian rock icons The Tragically Hip features arrestingly candid interviews, gorgeous imagery, searing performances of Hip favourites, and the heartrending tribute to endurance. This is a film about wonder, perseverance, and feeling alive even when dark shadows loom." Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World Saturday, October 14th @ 7pm Lincoln Alexander Centre "Rumble reveals an essential and, until now, missing chapter in the history of popular music: the Indigenous influence. Lifting the veil on the enormous impact made by First Nations and Native American musicians including Robbie Robertson, Link Wray, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Charley Patton, Jimi Hendrix, Jesse Ed Davis and more, Rumble celebrates their genre-changing and undeniably catchy influence." Lady Macbeth Sunday, October 15th @ 1pm Lincoln Alexander Centre "This striking adaptation of Nikolai Leskov’s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District is relocated to Victorian England. Trapped in a marriage to a much older man and marooned on an estate, Lady Katherine (Florence Pugh) soon finds an outlet for her stifled desires in an a affair with a young groom — but the couple’s passion could prove to be their undoing." The Square Sunday, October 15th @ 8pm Lincoln Alexander Centre "Swedish provocateur Ruben Östlund (Force Majeure) took home the Palme d’Or at Cannes for this no-holds-barred satire of the postmodern art world, about a self-important curator whose attempts to mount an ambitious exhibition go hilariously awry." Lost in Paris (Paris pieds nus) Monday, October 16th @ 1pm Cineplex Cinemas Ancaster "Small town Canadian librarian Fiona receives a letter of distress from her elderly Aunt Martha living in Paris. Fiona hops on the first plane only to discover that Martha has disappeared. There, she meets Dom, a lovable vagabond who won’t leave her alone." For the full festival program and tickets, click here.
