Oh. My. Word. The first round of award season (film and television) nominations are out which is good and bad. This morning's SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards nominations announcement was a tad shocking. There are waaaaay too many categories so let's just talk film, cast, leading and supporting roles.
For Best Actor, we've got Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Johnny Depp (Black Mass), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant - will this finally be his year?), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), and Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl). These leading men are all deserving in their own way, but I think it's going to be between Leonardo DiCaprio (the guy needs an Oscar already and the winners of the SAGs usually end up winning Oscars) and Eddie Redmayne who fought until the very end with Michael Keaton for last year's Best Actor honours for his role in The Theory of Everything. For Best Actress, the competition is just as intense. Cate Blanchett (Carol), Brie Larson (Room), Helen Mirren (Woman in Gold), Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn - have no clue who she is), and Sarah Silverman (I Smile Back - was definitely not expecting her to land a nomination) are competing against one another. I am so torn between Cate Blanchett and Brie Larson because they both do an amazing job in their films and have gotten a lot of buzz thanks to festival season. As for the supporting roles, let's switch things up and start with supporting ladies. Rooney Mara (Carol - this is interesting because she is actually eligible to be in the lead actress category), Rachel McAdams (Spotlight - so pumped to see this film over the holidays), Helen Mirren (Trumbo), Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), and Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs). I am rooting all the way for Rooney Mara since this film is so groundbreaking. Supporting gentleman are Christian Bale (The Big Short), Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation - watched this on Netflix and wasn't feeling it), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Michael Shannon (99 Homes), and Jacob Tremblay (Room). Gahhh! I don't know which one to choose partly because I've only seen one of the films, and partly because... Well... I don't have any other reason. Now for one of my favourite categories: Best Cast! The casts of Beasts of No Nation (again, don't understand the big deal), The Big Short (star-studded film), Spotlight (star-studded film), Straight Outta Compton (really?), and Trumbo (star-studded film). Holy! I am for all of the above casts (except for Beasts of No Nation) to win. There are also television categories, but let's be honest... Who really cares about those versus the film categories? You can see a complete list of nominees here via E! Online. Did anyone get snubbed (*cough* actors in Spotlight *cough*)? Are you rooting for any of the above films or stars? Comment below or tweet me @MissSaverinaS! Tonight's the night that I'll make nachos and sit down only to feel about myself for an hour or two... Just kidding - about the feeling bad about myself part. We finally get to see the 2015 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for ourselves tonight at 10pm EST on Global (if you're in Canada)!
Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are just a couple of the pretty faces (and fit bods) that we will see on our TV screens tonight along with some musical performances (rumour has it that Rihanna, a scheduled performer, dropped out at the last minute). I. Am. So. Excited. Will you be tuning in tonight? Leave a comment below or tweet me @MissSaverinaS! (Note: I will obviously be live tweeting the show while enjoying my nachos.) Here we go! I'm doing my happy dance after this morning's announcement regarding 2016 Grammy nominations as it means award season is officially in session. There were snubs, shockers and no-brainers like the fact that Taylor Swift dominated nominations wise, and following closely behind are The Weekend and Ed Sheeran.
I like that the Grammys are aiming to acknowledge the most talented artists versus the most popular/overrated artists. An example of this is D'Angelo and the Vanguard's "Really Love" being nominated for Record of the Year competing with Taylor Swift, Mark Ronson (and Bruno Mars), Ed Sheeran, and The Weeknd. As for snubs... For some reason, people think that Nick Jonas and Adele should have been nominated (each got 0 nominations), however I disagree. Sure, Nick Jonas' songs were at the top of the charts for quite some time, but I do not believe that they are worthy of a Grammy or two. And Adele: a) I think she's overrated (don't hate - I'm allowed to have an opinion), and b) her album 25 and single "Hello" are not eligible since there weren't released between September 30th, 2014 and October 1st, 2015. I have no doubt that she'll earn some hardware for her killer vocals next time around. There is not enough room to fit all of the nominees, but you can view the full list here via E! Online. What do you think of the 2016 Grammy nominations? Are you supporting or hating? Leave a comment below or tweet me @MissSaverinaS! It's time for another LIVE production and this year The Wiz is the victim of NBC's live star-studded production treatment.
So who will you be seeing on your TV if you tune it tonight at 8pm EST? Ne-Yo - Tin Woodman Uzo Aduba - Glinda Queen Latifah - Oz Mary J. Blige - Wicked Witch of the West Common - Bouncer Elijah Kelly - Scarecrow David Alan Grier - Cowardly Lion Amber Riley - Good Witch of the North And making her debut is Shanice Williams as Dorothy! I am not 100% convinced that this will be epic because that was the promise last year when Peter Pan LIVE aired and I ended up disappointed - even though Christopher Walken seemed drunk out of his mind while playing Captain Hook! It will also be painful to watch considering my deep love for all things The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz. The cast is pretty solid so I suppose I'll give it a shot. There will not be a recap, BUT I will be live tweeting so make sure to give me a follow on Twitter @MissSaverinaS and let me know what you think! Turns out things were pretty heated behind the scenes of Magic Mike - and not the good kind of heat.
Alex Pettyfer revealed during a recent podcast interview that Channing Tatum wasn't the nicest while filming the first film because: a) Alex was renting Channing's friends' place and owed money in which Chan crossed the line and sent a nasty email on behalf of his friends; b) Alex claims to be insecure hence why he usually just stays to himself. Well, Channing and the rest of the cast and crew took it as he's too good for them. It also didn't help that all of this happened while Alex was doing his best to cope with the death of his cousin. Timing is everything. Channing then went on to badmouth Alex and let everyone in on the fact that he didn't like Alex. Ouch. How do you feel about this - #TeamAlex or #TeamChanning?
